FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What Tenara does today, where its information comes from, and how far to rely on it. Technical integration questions are covered in the developer guide.
Tenara Personal
For individuals using Tenara to understand their financial health.
Does Tenara collect financial data from other sources, or does it rely on information I provide?
Tenara Personal relies on the financial information you provide: your income, regular commitments, existing credit and repayment history. It does not connect to your bank accounts, mobile money transactions or credit bureau records.
Connecting external financial data is a possible future enhancement. If it is ever offered, it will be optional and you will be asked first.
How accurate is my Tenara financial health assessment?
Your assessment is calculated from the information you provide using a transparent, rule-based scorecard. Its usefulness depends on how complete and accurate that information is.
The scorecard has not yet been validated against real repayment outcomes. Treat your assessment as an indication of your financial health, not a guarantee of your creditworthiness or of any future financial outcome.
Does Tenara verify the financial information I provide?
No. Tenara Personal does not currently verify the information you enter, so your assessment reflects your own figures. Entering complete and accurate details gives you a more meaningful result.
What determines whether my financial health is good or poor?
Financial health is about more than how much you earn or owe. Tenara Personal looks at several factors from the information you provide: your income, your debt obligations, how much of your income is already committed (affordability), how long you have been in your current work, your repayment history and length of credit history, and how often you have applied for credit recently.
Your results show which factors are helping and which are holding you back, with practical suggestions for improvement, rather than judging your finances on a single number.
Is the Tenara Score an official credit bureau score?
No. The Tenara Score is a proprietary Tenara financial assessment. It is not an official credit bureau score and should not be interpreted or presented as one. It is designed to help you understand aspects of your financial health based on the information you provide.
Tenara for Business
For banks, SACCOs, MFIs, fintechs and lenders evaluating the platform.
Does Tenara replace our existing credit-scoring system?
Not necessarily. Tenara is designed to complement your existing lending systems by providing credit risk assessments, affordability insights and explainable risk factors through an API-first platform.
You can use these insights alongside your existing models and lending policies. Lending decisions always stay with your institution: credit officers record approvals and rejections, and the API cannot decide on applications.
How does Tenara differ from traditional credit-scoring solutions?
Traditional credit-scoring solutions typically return a score from a model. Tenara aims to provide a broader layer of credit intelligence: each assessment combines a risk score and band, a probability-of-default estimate, an affordability analysis with a recommended loan amount, and the factors that drove the result.
Every assessment also records the inputs and the model version used, so results can be explained and audited. The API-first design lets you bring these capabilities into your existing workflows.
Where does Tenara get borrower information?
From your institution. Tenara for Business uses the borrower and financial information you submit through the dashboard or the API. It does not currently pull data from credit bureaus, banks or mobile money providers.
The quality of an assessment depends on the information provided. External data integrations may expand what is available as they are developed.
How reliable are Tenara's credit risk assessments?
The current assessment engine is a deterministic placeholder provided for integration and evaluation work. It is not yet a validated credit model and must not be used on its own for real lending decisions.
In general, the reliability of any assessment depends on data quality, model design and validation against relevant lending outcomes. Evaluate Tenara against your own requirements, keep appropriate human oversight and lending policies in place, and do not assume it outperforms your existing model without validation evidence.
Can Tenara integrate with our existing lending systems?
Yes. Tenara is API-first: your loan origination system, core banking platform or app can create borrowers and credit applications, run assessments and retrieve results through REST endpoints, with separate sandbox and production API keys.
The scope of a specific integration depends on your requirements and the endpoints currently available. The developer guide lists them.
Tenara Score is a proprietary Tenara financial assessment and is not an official credit-bureau score.
